Experience
The following are not required but would be considered an asset:
Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent, specializing in Food Science or related field
Three years of Food Safety and Quality Assurance experience in a food manufacturing environment
Successful creation and implementation of standard operating procedures tied to quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and sanitation in a food production / manufacturing environment
Proven leadership, mentoring, and coaching skills
Job Description:
We are currently looking for an individual to fill a Quality Assurance / Food Safety role with our company. This role could take one of the following forms:
1. Quality Assurance / Food Safety Technician – This individual would not be required to have any relevant experience or training and would be expected to perform the Primary Job Functions with the desire and ability to grow themselves and the position into a management role.
2. Quality Assurance / Food Safety Manager – This individual would have a combination of experience and education that would enable them to take on both the Primary Job Functions and the Management Job Functions.
The Quality Assurance / Food Safety position plays an essential role in the monitoring and advancement of food quality and safety programs and ensures the integrity of products through daily process checks as well as periodic projects.
Primary Job Functions
Monitor quality of packed product by visually inspecting product being graded, providing feedback to graders, inspecting packed product using standard size & quality specifications, documenting results, and analyzing samples for size, temperature, moisture, defects, damage, etc
Perform inspections and prepare C-PIQ documents for export and maintain the in-house C-PIQ manual
Ensure product is properly labelled and date coded for product traceability and recordkeeping
Work closely with Production Manager to ensure efforts are coordinated to minimize the impact of inspections on production
Carry out auditing functions, to ensure all grading and packing procedures are carried out according to specifications, in the event of non-conformances, liaise with Production Manager to resolve
Establish and maintain a sample library for reference of product shipped and rotate regularly
Maintain a library of quality records, capable of easy access when required
Maintain company\'s quality procedures, standards and specifications
Review customer requirements and ensure they are met
Support customer and regulatory visits and audits
Participate in development, implementation and enforcement of personnel and factory hygiene standards
Management Job Functions
Develop and implement auditing functions
Develop grader training curriculum and lead new grader training and refresher courses
Organize, implement and oversee food safety program. Aspects of this program include assigning responsibility for specific tasks, developing and overseeing proper documentation of all activities relevant to food safety, and regular scheduled audits
Monitor performance by gathering relevant data and measure against established standards and/or goals
Actively seek out opportunities to progressively improve work processes and product
Quantify and communicate to Management Team the impacts of implemented changes
Develop and expand knowledge of potato health and diseases, etc. by reading literature, attending seminars, etc
Wages:
Salary will be commensurate with experience. Group health insurance benefits are available.
